The X + 2 Σ u ground electronic state of the Mg ion has been studied by pulsed-field-ionization zero-kinetic-energy (PFI-ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy. Rotationally cold molecules produced in a laser-ablation supersonic-expansion source were ionized resonant two-photon absorption from 1 g ( v ′ = 0 ) vibronic state. spectra 3 − 14 vibrational levels recorded with rotational resolution and their analysis led to determination accurate term values constants for these levels. Improved adiabatic ionization energy 24 51 503 . 9 4 cm −1 ground-state dissociation 10 572 6 determined experimental data. • cation was characterized first time.
